Summary

Pre-order Prodigal Son, the thrilling new Orphan X book from bestselling author Gregg Hurwitz。

Forced into retirement, Evan Smoak gets an urgent request for help from someone he didn't even suspect existed 。 。 。

As a boy, Evan Smoak was pulled out of a foster home and trained in an off-the-books operation known as the Orphan Program。 He was a government assassin, perhaps the best, known to a few insiders as Orphan X。 He eventually broke with the Program and adopted a new name-The Nowhere Man-and a new mission, helping the most desperate in their times of trouble。 But the highest power in the country has made him a tempting offer-in exchange for an unofficial pardon, he must stop his clandestine activities as The Nowhere Man。 Now Evan has to do the one thing he's least equipped to do-live a normal life。

But then he gets a call for help from the one person he never expected。 A woman claiming to have given him up for adoption, a woman he never knew-his mother。 Her unlikely request: help Andrew Duran-a man whose life has gone off the rails, who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, bringing him to the deadly attention of very powerful figures。 Now a brutal brother & sister assassination team are after him and with no one to turn to, and no safe place to hide, Evan is Duran's only option。 But when the hidden cabal catches on to what Evan is doing, everything he's fought for is on the line-including his own life。

The Nowhere Man。 First, that's just awesome。 😁 I love it。 I had to say it。 This is the first in this series I have read。 Wow。 I'm definitely hooked。 I'm starting Orphan X in the morning。 Evan is the Nowhere Man。 He works from the shadows to help those who can not save themselves。 He receives a phone call from his biological mother that sends him down quite an adventurous path。 He is asked to help a stranger, a friend of his mom。 There are plenty of twists and turns in this one。 You will find it The Nowhere Man。 First, that's just awesome。 😁 I love it。 I had to say it。 This is the first in this series I have read。 Wow。 I'm definitely hooked。 I'm starting Orphan X in the morning。 Evan is the Nowhere Man。 He works from the shadows to help those who can not save themselves。 He receives a phone call from his biological mother that sends him down quite an adventurous path。 He is asked to help a stranger, a friend of his mom。 There are plenty of twists and turns in this one。 You will find it difficult to put down。 You will not regret giving this one a try。 Five stars, not enough。 👍 Well done! 。。。more

Wow, I've liked this entire series but the author really stepped up this time in terms of compelling relationships between characters。 There were multiple sections of my favorite type of writing - where I read a paragraph again and marvel at the perfect description of familiar feelings that are written exactly as I feel them, and much better than I can express。 Wow, I've liked this entire series but the author really stepped up this time in terms of compelling relationships between characters。 There were multiple sections of my favorite type of writing - where I read a paragraph again and marvel at the perfect description of familiar feelings that are written exactly as I feel them, and much better than I can express。 。。。more

I've read all of the main books (and some of the short stories) in order as they have been released。 Although this book can be read alone, I think that Evan's relationship to other characters is better understood by reading the previous books。 In Prodigal Son, Evan is forced to reevaluate his childhood experiences and where/how his current self fits into a possible transition into a "normal" life。 The ending seems to reference a possible 7th book。The tech featured in this book is possible to som I've read all of the main books (and some of the short stories) in order as they have been released。 Although this book can be read alone, I think that Evan's relationship to other characters is better understood by reading the previous books。 In Prodigal Son, Evan is forced to reevaluate his childhood experiences and where/how his current self fits into a possible transition into a "normal" life。 The ending seems to reference a possible 7th book。The tech featured in this book is possible to some degree and might be very possible in the near future。 Evan faces multiple life-threatening situations throughout this book。 How long will his "luck" last? 。。。more

Each book in the Orphan X series just gets better, and the sixth instalment is no exception。 Prodigal Son sees Evan Smoak wrestling with what it means to have a family, peeling back layers of his character to reveal his vulnerabilities。 The story is action packed as usual, with a thought-provoking threat for Evan to face。 The usual characters return, and are developed in their own right as well as providing a reflection for Evan's expanding depths。 I love all of them, which is part of the allure Each book in the Orphan X series just gets better, and the sixth instalment is no exception。 Prodigal Son sees Evan Smoak wrestling with what it means to have a family, peeling back layers of his character to reveal his vulnerabilities。 The story is action packed as usual, with a thought-provoking threat for Evan to face。 The usual characters return, and are developed in their own right as well as providing a reflection for Evan's expanding depths。 I love all of them, which is part of the allure of the series。Prodigal Son ends on a huge cliffhanger, which makes me even more eager than usual to read number seven, which I believe is called Dark Horse。 Hurry back Orphan X! 。。。more

3。75 I haven’t read any of the previous 5 books in this Orphan X series。 The main character is Evan Smock。 Assassin or not? He has been asked to come out of retirement to help Andrew Duras。 Poor Evan, he just can’t seem to assimilate back to a normal life。 In this story we have several flashbacks into Evan’s childhood and learn more of his back story and more about his friend Joey, who I liked a lot! The story is action packed。 It was a highly reviewed book but I just wasn’t into most of it。。。ba 3。75 I haven’t read any of the previous 5 books in this Orphan X series。 The main character is Evan Smock。 Assassin or not? Outstanding; Continuing character: Evan Smoak; Evan is brought out of retirement by a call from his mother, who he has never known, to help a man charged with murder and who has killers after him; leads to battles with microdrones and trying to reconcile his past with a possible future

Loved this! Expertly plotted and written。 And had a feature I value in fiction: giving insight about a topic I know little about。。。drone warfare。 Very enjoyable!

This series keeps getting better。 I love the development of the relationship between Evan & Joey, and of course Dog the dog。The other relationships that are revealed in this novel were also great。 It was nice to have a flashback to Evan and his time in the youth home before joining the Orphan program。Of course, the cliffhanger ending was just mean。 Come on Gregg Hurwitz, why do you have to do that?

Deborah L Zurinski

I love the Orphan X series and this one to me was just as good--of course the cliff hanger at the end so it could go either way。

This is an adrenaline-inducing thriller, but with surprising emotional depths not normally associated with Orphan X, The Nowhere Man。 There is sufficient background detail to enjoy this thriller without reading previous books。 This one is particularly insightful, revisiting Ewan's beginnings and forcing him to reacquaint with his little-used emotions。The characters are vibrant, and there is an addictive blend of action and introspection past and present, which keeps the reader engaged。I received This is an adrenaline-inducing thriller, but with surprising emotional depths not normally associated with Orphan X, The Nowhere Man。 There is sufficient background detail to enjoy this thriller without reading previous books。 This one is particularly insightful, revisiting Ewan's beginnings and forcing him to reacquaint with his little-used emotions。The characters are vibrant, and there is an addictive blend of action and introspection past and present, which keeps the reader engaged。I received a copy of this book from Penguin Books UK -Michael Joseph via NetGalley in return for an honest review。 。。。more

No。 6 in the Orphan X series was still a decent read, but I never felt as rivetted as I did with previous instalments。 A couple of people make an appearance in Evan Smoak's life。 I never quite bought the backstories, even though when it comes to this genre I'm more eager to let things slide when it comes to the believability aspects。Hurwitz introduced us to military drones and AI (artificial intelligence) and their capabilities。 Scary stuff。 I'm sure those who read and enjoyed any of the Orphan No。 6 in the Orphan X series was still a decent read, but I never felt as rivetted as I did with previous instalments。 A couple of people make an appearance in Evan Smoak's life。 I never quite bought the backstories, even though when it comes to this genre I'm more eager to let things slide when it comes to the believability aspects。Hurwitz introduced us to military drones and AI (artificial intelligence) and their capabilities。 Scary stuff。 I'm sure those who read and enjoyed any of the Orphan X books will enjoy this one as well。 It's just not my favourite。 。。。more

Up until Into the Fire, I had read all of these books。 Mistakingly I listened to Into the Fire, and honestly I almost didn’t finish it。 I don’t know if it was because the story line was so far fetched OR if I couldn’t get past the annoying voice of the reader。 However, if you’ve read Into the Fire, then you know that the last page of the book had us instantly ready to pick up the next one。 Hurwitz redeemed himself something fierce, this book was everything we love about Evan Smoak。 I laughed, l Up until Into the Fire, I had read all of these books。 Mistakingly I listened to Into the Fire, and honestly I almost didn’t finish it。 I don’t know if it was because the story line was so far fetched OR if I couldn’t get past the annoying voice of the reader。 However, if you’ve read Into the Fire, then you know that the last page of the book had us instantly ready to pick up the next one。 Hurwitz redeemed himself something fierce, this book was everything we love about Evan Smoak。 I laughed, l cried and I’m really hoping there is more to come。 My review。。。stop reading this and start reading Prodigal Son! 。。。more

I was not disappointed。 Evan is still on top form and a few old faces pop up。 Roll on the next instalment

I am by no means an expert on technology or drones but found some of this story to be unbelievable。 Overall I found it well written and enjoy tough guy Evan Smoak。 I believe Hurwitz has left all Orphan X fans drooling for the next book after the cliff hanging ending in this one。 Hope he doesn't keep us waiting too long! Kind of different vibes to the previous Orphan X books。 Focused on more emotional and family themes。This kind of helps Orphan X be more relatable and more human than his regular self。In doing the above, I think this book misses out what’s made me enjoy the series so much。 I feel like the twins and the doctor back story and subplot was also quite rushed。Not the best in the series, also not the worst。Looking forward to the next one!

Peggy

BOOM!! I hope the scenarios are not close to reality!! But what are we doing to our drone pilots????

My Rating: 3。5 DronesAn entertaining story of the further adventures of Evan Smoak, AKA Orphan X。I liked this a lot。 Audio book narration by Scott Brick (the best), and an excellent bonus at the end。

So very very good。 Excellent series

Prodigal Son introduces a new danger to the world。 I wish I could say it's just fiction, but thanks to the geeks at MIT, the world will know a new horror。 And it can be used to kill or to enforce totalitarian measures, making freedom a thing of the past。 So Orphan X is up against something more dangerous than the normal operators he's used to。 And life for Evan may never be the same again, assuming he survives。 Prodigal Son introduces a new danger to the world。 I wish I could say it's just fiction, but thanks to the geeks at MIT, the world will know a new horror。 And it can be used to kill or to enforce totalitarian measures, making freedom a thing of the past。 So Orphan X is up against something more dangerous than the normal operators he's used to。 And life for Evan may never be the same again, assuming he survives。 。。。more

I’ve read all of the Orphan X novels and this one did not disappoint。 I enjoyed it a lot。 However, it was a bit sappy and the inner dialogue struggle got annoying。 Also, he just seems to right away believe who Veronica was - which seemed so out of character for him。 And I am probably in the minority here but I can’t stand Mia。 Joey and Dog were great though! I’d read that spin off if she joins forces with Orphan V!!

Cheryl

I enjoy the Orphan X series。Perhaps what I liked the best with this one was the sense of team and emotional learning by the orphan。I do recommend the series。

Becky Fann

I love that the main character is slowly finding the human connection in his life。 Can’t wait for the next book。
